Abstract
22,444. Bell, J. E. April 4, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Water - tube boilers ; superheaters, steam.- The boiler is provided with the usual longitudinal upper and lower drums 2, 3, connected by banks of generating-tubes. 12, The furnace is arranged directly beneath the boiler and provided with an arch or roof 8 having openings 10 at the back. The superheater is fitted in the middle pass between the vertical baffles 11, 13, and is built up of inclined tubes 14, terminating in lower and upper drums 15, 16 ; the drum 16 is divided by a transverse partition 17. In lieu of the above, the superheater may have one lower and two upper drums, or two upper and two lower drums, or one upper and two lower drums. Further, it may be arranged in the third instead of the middle pass of the gases.
