Abstract
22,440. Sneddon, J. P. Nov. 16, 1904, [date applied for under Patents Act, 1901]. Water-tube boilers; superheaters, steam.-Relates to combined boilers and superheaters arranged within the same setting or casing as shown in Specifications No. 26,895, A.D. 1903, and No. 19,476, A.D. 1904. According to the present invention, the superheater occupies the whole of the last passage of the furnace gases. Fig. 1 shows the boiler composed of two upper drums 2, 3 connected by tubes 5, 6 with a lower drum 4 directly behind the grate. Baffles 9, 10 deflect the gases. The superheater is shown as consisting of upper and lower drums 11, 12 connected by tubes 13 and having a baffle 14, which deflects the gases upwards to the outlet 15. The drums 11, 12 may be fitted with transverse partitions, dividing the tubes into groups through which the steam passes in succession. Connexions 21 are provided for flooding the superheater. The boiler may have one upper and one or two lower drums, or two upper and two lower drums. The arrangement of the baffles may be varied.
