Abstract

209,764. Bell, J. E. Jan. 13, 1923, [Convention date]. Straight - tube superheaters. - A water-tube boiler plant has a U- shaped combustion chamber, the walls of which are screened by the metallic tubes of the boiler or steamsuperheater connected therewith. The superheater units K, Fig. 1, are incorporated in the side walls of the combustion chamber. In a modification, a hollow baffle depending from the drum D and formed as a steamsuperheater comprises two sets of tubes K<10> connected at their lower ends to an outlet header K<11> and at their upper ends to headers K<12> to which steam is supplied from the drum D through connections K<13>. The superheater tubes are encased in cast-iron sections K<14> arranged between bricks K<15> the enlarged heads of which abut against angle-bars K<16>. Tiles K<17> protect the header K<11> and lower parts of the tubes.
