Abstract
160,292. Thornycroft & Co., Ltd., J. I., and Mackie, R. Dec. 24, 1919. Multitubular boilers; vertical boilers.-Relates to a steam boiler having a furnace into which pulverized fuel is blown together with the air for supporting combustion, the unburned fuel and the products of combustion being directed back upon themselves during combustion. Fuel is supplied to the furnace f, which is closed at one end, by a nozzle o placed at a distance from the furnace mouth. The products flow into smoketubes j arranged parallel to the furnace and terminating at one end in the plane of the furnace mouth. The tube-plate e, which may be inclined, is connected to an annular enlargement h at the top of the boiler. The water space may extend around the chamber between the furnace and the bottom of the boiler. The bottom refractory lining m may be inclined towards the opening n through which the fuel nozzle is inserted. In a boiler having an horizontal furnace, the gases pass into a smoke-box at the rear of the boiler through horizontal tubes arranged above the furnace. The water space may, in this modification, extend around the back of the furnace.
