Abstract
303,980. Donald, W. Dec. 2, 1927. Compound boilers.-A steam generating plant comprises a horizontal boiler a having furnace flues a<3> fired with solid fuel or fitted with burners, a combustion chamber a<4> in which the combustion of the furnace gases is completed, a horizontal multitubular boiler b and a smokebox d which is connected to the casings of suction fans. A multitubular feed-water heater c may be placed between the boiler b and the smoke-box. A firebrick wall a<11> in the combustion chamber is formed with a number of openings a<12> or with a single central opening, through which the gases pass direct to the multitubular boiler. The bottom of the combustion chamber may be flat and may be fitted with rocking firebars for cleaning purposes. The smokebox may be divided by a partition d<7> to form separate gas outlets which may be connected to separate suction fans. A superheater d<6> is inserted in the tubes of the multitubular boiler and feed heater. Specifications 10008/03 and 248,501 are referred to.
