Abstract

254,752. Burroughs, C. W. July 3, 1925, [Convention date]. Pulverulent, liquid, and gaseous fuel furnaces. -The combustion chamber 1 of a water-tube boiler furnace burning pulverulent, liquid or gaseous fuel is enclosed on all sides by vertical water tubes 12 connected to upper and lower headers 10, 11, the upper header 10 being provided with one or more burner tubes 2. Preheated air is supplied to the combustion chamber 1 from a manifold 6 and tubes 60 arranged between the tubes 1. The combustion products pass between the tubes 12 around the headers 11 and thence through an opening in the wall 36 to a chamber 3 containing boiler tubes 32 connected to upper and lower drums 30, 31 which in turn are connected with the headers 10, 11 respectively by tubes 4, 40 and 5. Baffles 33 direct the course of the gases around the tubes to an outlet 34 and to an air-preheater and thence to the chimney. The steam outlet pipes 35 from the drums 30 may lead to a superheater 37.
