Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; cooling.-In boiler furnaces of the kind having steeply-inclined water tubes arranged like a gable roof above the exit from the combustion chamber for pulverulent fuel the downwardly-directed burners are fitted at the ends of the combustion chamber in a line at right angles to the axes of the boiler drums which axes are in the direction of the length of the combustion chamber. Protective water tubes directly connected with the boiler drums are arranged on the sides of the combustion chamber. The boiler comprises three upper drums a and two lower drums b connected by steeply-inclined tubes d forming the roof of the combustion chamber e, and by vertical downcomer tubes c. Across the ash hoppers f at the bottom of the combustion chamber extend cooling tubes g connected with headers h, i the headers i being connected with the outside upper drums a by pipes k which at their upper portions join the nests of tubes c. The headers h are connected with the lower drums b by tubes m forming a protective covering for the walls l of the combustion chamber. The burners n are arranged at each end of the combustion chamber at right angles to the axes of the boiler drums, additional air for combustion being introduced through openings in the end walls. Baffle plates q within the drums b cause the water rising from the tubes m to be directed into the tubes d. An air preheater is arranged on one side of the furnace.
