Abstract

Dampers for controlling superheaters.-In a boiler having rows of tubes connected at both ends to water chambers, a primary superheater placed above the tubes, a secondary superheater placed between the rows of tubes, and baffles to direct the furnace gases over the tubes, means are provided for directing a regulated part of the gases over the secondary superheater. A boiler having inclined water-tubes connected to headers 30, 31 is fitted with a primary superheater 41 and a secondary superheater 42, which is placed between the spaced bottom rows of water tubes 34. Baffles 36, 35 extend along the water tubes above and below the secondary superheater. The main portion of the furnace gases is directed upwardly by a baffle 37 over the primary superheater. A sliding damper 50 in the baffle 36 allows a regulated portion of the gases to pass over the secondary superheater, after which they mix with the main portion and pass upwardly to the outlet 40. The damper consists of a grid adapted to slide over cast iron blocks resting upon the water-tubes and having ports of about the same width as the distance between the tubes.
