Abstract

196,174. Kirke, P. St. G. April 4, 1922. Return-tube boilers.-In a return-tube boiler working under induced or forced draught, the ratio of the tube-heating surface to the total sectional area of the heating tubes is greater than 280 to 1, and is preferably between 500 to 1 and 600 to 1. In a return-tube boiler having such a tube-heating surface, the chamber e connecting the outlet of the furnace flues a with the return tubes d contains a superheater f. The furnaces are fed by burners b, and a septum c, arranged as described in Specification 182,995, [Class 51 (i), Furnaces and kilns, Combustion apparatus of], is fitted in each flue to accelerate the mixing and combustion of the oil vapour and air. An economizer may be placed on the delivery side of the fan i, creating an induced draught. The smoke-box cover n may have cleaning holes arranged as described in Specification 186,801, [Class 25, Chimneys &c.].
