[Class 51 (i)] In a furnace of the kind provided with nozzles arranged to supply steam above the grate and in an upwardly inclined direction behind the firebridge, steam nozzles 0 arranged behind the bridge M or at O<1> behind a second bridge P, where two bridges are employed, are arranged at an inclination depending on the height of the chimney or draught. The higher the chimney, or the greater the draught, the less is the angle of the nozzles from the perpendicular. A damper Q controls the passage of air from the ashpit to the flue through the space between the bridges M, P. Steam is delivered above the grate through a nozzle H.
