In a pulverulent-fuel corner-fired furnace wherein the flow of air to secondary-air nozzles associated with a burner or group of burners is controlled in relation to the supply of fuel to the burner or burners, the velocity with which secondary air is discharged into the furnace chamber is automatically maintained within suitable limits, irrespective of the amount of air discharged, through regulation of the effective cross-section of the secondary-air nozzles.
