Abstract
644,241. Regulating air supply to furnaces; preheating fuel. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. (Deutsche Babcock & Wilcox Dampfkesselwerke Akt.-Ges.). July 13, 1948, No. 18781. [Class 51(i)] Fuel fed to the tube-lined combustion chamber of a steam generator by worms 9 is dried, in passing through a trough 10 subject to radiation from said combustion chamber, on its way to a travelling grate 1, which is supplied with primary air to compartments 2, 3 and 4, said air being so controlled that the pressure in the middle compartment 3 is substantially higher than in the other two. Secondary air is supplied through nozzles 11 in the rear wall 7 at a pressure at least equal to that in the compartment 3. The whole of the air may be supplied by a common fan and controlled to the different zones by dampers or separate fans may be provided.
