692,629. Mechanical stokers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Oct. 2, 1950 [May 9, 1949], No. 24089/50. Class 51(i) [Also in Group XXX] A combustion apparatus comprises a travelling grate, mechanical feeding means which supply fuel at a controlled rate on to an upwardly-inclined feed plate and fluid discharge means adapted continuously to discharge gaseous fluid over the plate into a furnace chamber and thereby project fuel from the plate on to the travelling grate. As shown in the Figure, fuel from a hopper 1 is fed by. rams 3 on to an upwardly-inclined feed plate 12 and in front of a nozzle 11 which directs air over the plate and into the furnace chamber. The nozzle may be in the form of a continuous slot or may be replaced by a number of separate nozzles.
