880,967. Feeding bagasse or coal to furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. June 2, 1960 [June 2, 1959], No. 18871/59. Class 51 (1). [Also in Group XXX] Bagasse from a shoot 37 or coal from a shoot 36 is fed by a scraper conveyer 34 to a shoot 17 feeding a spreader stoker 5. The inclination of shoot 17 is adjusted by a lever 27 so that it delivers bagasse on to the top of the rotor 5 or discharges coal to a guide plate 20 which delivers coal horizontally to the top of the rotor 5. The divergent walls 61, 62 of the bagasse shoot 37 extend downwardly and rearwardly, the rear wall 62 terminating at a distance above the rear end of the scraper conveyer 34, a shredder feeder 64 comprising staggered rows of rods 68 being mounted between the lower end of the shoot wall 62 and the delivery end of the scraper conveyer 34. A gate 55 controls the delivery of coal from shoot 36 to a pivoted plate 53 which is moved by the slats of the scraper conveyer to cut-off the supply of coal, and deposits a predetermined quantity of coal between the slats. The shredder 64 and conveyer 34 are driven by a motor and a second motor drives the stoker rotor 5, which should rotate twice as fast for bagasse firing as for coal firing. For bagasse firing, the tipping plate 53 is raised clear of the feeder slats.
