675,358. Mechanical stokers. BABCOCK & WILCOX, Ltd. Dec. 15, 1950 [Dec. 15, 1949], No. 30642/50. Class 51 (i). In a furnace utilizing a spreader stoker a door of heat-resistant material is provided between the fuel sprinkling means and the furnace chamber. As shown in a tube boiler in which fuel from a hopper 7 is fed by a ram 8 to fuel sprinkler means 11, 12, 13, a door 16 is disposed between the sprinkler and the furnace chamber. Secondary air is supplied from a duct 18 to the chamber through a loosely-fitted inclined nozzle plate 14 which is covered by the lower edge 17 of the door when the latter is in a closed position. If the plate 14 be removed then the door may be lowered still further effectively to seal the chamber opening 5.
