Abstract
843,915. Feeding furnaces. BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd. Jan. 10, 1957 [Jan. 11, 1956], No. 964/56. Class 78 (1). Coal is discharged from hopper 27 into furnace 4 by pusher 40, the coal from the hopper falling down on to spill plate 10 and being pushed over edge 9 on to sprinkler 5 by the said pusher 40 reciprocated by two fluid cylinders 46 acting through a yoke 44. A plate 37 (not shown) may be introduced along rails 36 to block the flow of fuel from the hopper and the position of the spill plate may be varied by the operator rotating spindle 20. The pneumatic circuit of the fluid cylinders includes an adjustable valve which operates to cause the movement of the pusher 40 to be slower in the feeding direction than in the reverse direction. Control gate 29 is operated by rack-and-pinion 30.
