708,704. Pneumatic conveyers. BABCOCK & WFLCOX. Ltd. July 25, 1952 [July 27, 1951], No. 18904/52. Class 78 (1) In a device for feeding fluidized pulverulent material, e.g. coal, to a furnace 16, Fig. 1, from a closed tank 10 through a pipe 12 means is provided for controllably reducing the rate of flow of coal through the pipe comprising a pipe 30 for high pressure air which is fitted with a needle valve 34. The coal rests on a support 29 which may be constructed of perforated plates or porous ceramic material, but preferably consists of a pair of uniformly perforated steel plates 27 separated by a layer of steel wool 28. A flexible shaft 50, Fig. 2, driven slowly by an electric motor 48 extends along the pipe 12 to a position near its junction with the primary air conduit 16.
