Abstract

731,654. Preheating furnace charges. SMIDTH & CO., AKTIESELSKAB, F. L. Nov. 3, 1953, No. 30361/53. Class 51 (2). Apparatus for feeding preheated cement raw material to a rotary furnace 1 comprises cyclone separators 4 and 6 and a fan 7 traversed in turn by waste gases from the furnace, devices 15 and 12 feeding the material into the said waste gases in the flue pipes 3 and 5 leading to the separators 4 and 6 respectively, and a device 18 feeding material into the furnace through a pipe 17, the charge material in or on each of the devices 12, 15 and 18 forming a gas seal which is preserved while the material is wholly or partly fluidized to facilitate its flow into the next lower stage. The device 12, Fig. 2, comprises a casing 24 enclosing a gas-permeable bowl 23 fed with raw material through a pipe 11, and a valve controlled air pipe 25 admitting fluidizing air whereby material in the bowl 23 is caused to overflow into the pipe 13. The device 15, Fig. 6 (not shown), comprises a stand pipe 14 terminating in a funnel disposed over a disc with gas-permeable edges on which the material collects. The device 18, Fig. 3, comprises a casing 32 enclosing a gaspermeable surface 33 from which fluidized material is pushed by pressure of further material in the pipe 16. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the air chamber below the gas-permeable surface is divided into two compartments, and in another modification, Fig. 5 (not shown), a vertical stand pipe feeds a horizontal disc with gas-permeable edges.
