[Class 78 (i) [Also in Group XXXV] A conveyer, supplied with fuel from a hopper, is adapted to be vibrated electromagnetically to cause a feed of fuel to a combustion apparatus and subjected to control from the latter. Figs. 1, 2 and 3 show a vibratile grate 1 arranged at an inclination within a furnace and vibrated by electromagnetic device 2, carried by the grate. Fuel is supplied from hopper 5, provided with adjustable feedgate 7, via conveyer portion 8, to the grate 1, supported on helical springs 9, 10, channel bars 11, 13 secured to plates 12 and 14. To compensate for combustion and to maintain an approximately even thickness of fuel the device 2 is arranged to cause the vertical movement to be greater than the horizontal movement at the feed than at the delivery end of the grate, thus causing the fuel to travel faster at the feed end. The grate is of the trough form and includes a curved base 16 with the internal surface of which the webs 17 of transverse fire bars 18 make an air-tight fit. Air is supplied through openings 19 in the base of the grate, which openings communicate with oppositely disposed longitudinal air ducts 20, connected to valve-controlled air inlet pipe 21. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), a vibratile conveyer, between the grate and hopper, controls the flow of fuel.
