Abstract

1,047,951. Solid fuel combustion apparatus. HOUILLERES DU BASSIN DE LORRAINE. June 12, 1963 [June 13, 1962; June 18, 1962], No. 23482/63. Heading F4B. Solid fuel is fed discontinuously by a ram 8 at one end of a grate 1, the major part of the combustion air being fed below this end of the grate, the amount of forming air fed below the grate decreasing towards the cinder discharge end of the grate, and secondary air inlets 38 being provided in the refractory roof 15 and side walls 14 of the combustion chamber. The end wall 17 of the combustion chamber is cooled by distribution passages 32 for the secondary air. A pneumatic ash-removal arrangement is provided. The Specification describes various arrangements of the primary and secondary air supply fans, and the ash removal blower, and includes several different forms of combustion chamber, one being mounted on wheels for removal from a boiler being heated, one having a single motor driving the ram and a common blower for all the air supplies, and also discloses an arrangement of a boiler furnace in a room next to. coal bunker and its associated coal conveyer.
