The walls of the final combustion chamber 2 of a refuse-consuming furnace are formed by rectangular section tubes 3 connected between upper and lower headers 5, 4 and forming part of a boiler heated by the furnace. Combustion air is supplied to the chamber 2 by nozzles 10, and an ash scraper 9 is arranged below the chamber.
