Abstract

1282982 Incinerators K SUGANO 18 Aug 1970 [15 April 1970] 39712/70 Heading F4B An incinerator, particularly for burning plastic materials, has an elongated primary combustion chamber 2 with a hearth 6 having a ridge 9 separating two wells 12. The chamber 2 has double walls 7, 8 forming a water jacket, and air passages 19 secured to the inner wall 8 supply air from distributers 20 to material on the hearth through holes 21. Clearing doors 18 are arranged at each end. Extending upwardly from the chamber 2 is a secondary combustion chamber 3, with inner and outer walls 33, 27, 29 forming a water jacket divided into two parts by a partition 28. In the lower part air is fed by distributers 38, 39 through holes in the inner wall, and a gate arranged 44 projects through the upper part to allow material to be fed into the incinerator without the escape of hot gases. The inner wall 33 continues above the gate part 40 with an outer wall 31 and horizontal plates 30, 32 forming an air jacket for a smoke combustion chamber. Inclined nozzles 46 in the inner wall supply excess air from the jacket to the smoke combustion chamber, where the flame is exhausted before the gases leave by the stack 4. A blower 41 supplies air to the jacket and to the distributer in the lower combustion chambers, and a tank 50 feeds cooling water to the lower hollow walls, the jacket surrounding the hearth being continuous with that surrounding the lower part of the secondary combustion chamber and a pipe 37 connecting the two sections of this jacket. Condensers 54 collect steam from the furnace jackets. Material fed into the gate 44 is heated as it falls to the ridge 9 in the primary combustion chamber, where molten material collects in the wells 12 when it it gasified without being cooled by the addition of a fresh charge.
