Abstract

1,112,498. Pulverulent fuel furnaces. SULZER BROTHERS Ltd. 3 Nov., 1966 [5 Nov., 1965], No. 49282/66. Heading F4B. In a steam-generator with U-firing, primary air in which pulverized coal is entrained is blown downwardly into a combustion chamber 1 through a row of burner nozzles 3, secondary air being blown in through rows of nozzles 4 and 5, and a flame-guiding air stream of at least 1À8 times the velocity of the secondary air through a row of further nozzles 6. All the nozzles are mounted in an overhang 2 alongside which is a passage 8 through which the gases leave the furnace. The combustion chamber and the passage 8 are lined with tubes through which the working medium flows. The tubes in the hottest part of the flame, particularly those of the wall 7 are studded and covered with refractory. The tubes may be protected by refractory blocks. In a second embodiment (Fig. 3) fire burner nozzles 3 alternate in a row with six secondary air nozzles (4<SP>1</SP>), there are six further nozzles 6 between this row and the wall 7 each aligned with a secondary air nozzle and a row of six additional air nozzles (10) to blow air between the upwardly and downwardly directed portions of the U-shaped flame. In a final embodiment (Fig. 4) there are two rows of burner nozzles 3, and three secondary air nozzles each of which is as long lineary as a row of burner nozzles and a further air nozzle 6 which is as long linearly as a row of burner nozzles.
