Class 51(i) A pulverized-fuel furnace has at each of a plurality of levels a set of burners which discharge into the furnace chamber tangentially to an imaginary cylinder, the burners at one level discharging in a direction around the longitudinal axis of the furnace chamber opposite that in which the burners at an adjacent level discharge. Each burner has associated therewith a pair of secondary air nozzles, one above and one below the burner.
