Abstract

[Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group XII] A grate or burner fed with coal or like fuel by a screw 1 is formed with a hollow bridge 2a running longitudinally above the screw and communicating with the plenum space below the hearth plates 3. Air enters the combustion space through tuyeres 4 arranged above the bridge 2a and around the grate casting 2. To ensure an equal division of fuel to the two halves of the grate, the bridge 2a may be somewhat out of centre, a projection 2b may be formed in one fuel passage, or a fixed or adjustable flap or projection may be provided above the screw. The screw need not extend the whole length of the casting 2, a division plate being provided beyond it. Specifications 435,645, [Group XII], 520,078 and U.S.A. Specification 1,844,042 are referred to.
