Abstract

Gravity, materials descending by.-In apparatus for supplying pulverized fuel to furnaces, the fuel before it reaches the pulverizer is dried by passing it through a vertical shoot b provided with slotted walls and arranged within a chamber a through which waste gases diluted with air are circulated. The gases are withdrawn from the furnace flue d through a pipe e to which air is admitted through a valve f, and after passing through the fuel in the shoot b are returned to the flue through a pipe i provided with a fan g and valve h. In a modification, the fan g and valve h are arranged in the pipe e. A baffle c in the chamber a causes the gases to pass twice through the fuel.
