Abstract
223,935. Fuller-Lehigh Co., (Assignees of Gaffney, J. B.). Oct. 27, 1923, [Convention date]. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces.-Pulverulent fuel is burnt under a pressure above that of the atmosphere in a combustion chamber supplied with air under pressure through a multiplicity of openings 13, 13<a> in one or more of the walls and bottom of the combustion chamber which is surrounded by a jacket 15 enclosing a chamber 14 divided by partitions 19 into compartments supplied with air under pressure by a fan 16. The pressure of the air in the various compartments is controlled by valves 20 in the branch pipes 18 leading from the fan. The fuel may be supplied horizontally or vertically through nozzles 8, 9 arranged in the air inlet openings 12, 10 respectively. When the fuel is fed from above, it may be fed by a screw to the burner tube 9 and enter the furnace by gravity. The residues of combustion are removed through doors 24 and an opening 21 closed by a door in the bottom of the combustion chamber. An ash-pit 23 provided with a door 26 is arranged below the floor 5.
