Abstract

496,848. Air -- heating furnaces. CRAVEN BROS (MANCHESTER), Ltd., and LONGDEN, E. Jan. 17, 1938, No. 1470. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] A furnace for producing a mixture of hot air and combustion products for drying foundry moulds, cores and the like comprises a combustion chamber having a grate b extending from a double door a, j at one end of the furnace to a firebridge c over which combustion products pass to a downwardly directed outlet flue d. A fan m delivers air downwardly between the inner and outer plates of the door and to the ashpit v from which part of the air passes through the grate and part through an opening u to the hollow firebridge having delivery openings w. Air may also pass from the passage k between the inner and outer plates of the door through passages x in the side walls of the furnace to the firebridge and through an opening in the plate controlled by a valve p to the combustion chamber. An observation opening is provided in the outer door plate a in line with the opening in the inner plate j.
