Arranged on the outer side of the wall 20 are two guide members 27 and 28 which are adapted to open inwardly toward each other in order that flanges provided on the discharge spout 29 may be removably mounted therein and obviously this discharge spout is in communication with the discharge opening 26. It is apparent that it will be desirable to extend the construction over fire boxes in varied amounts and therefore by inserting discharge spouts 29 of different lengths, the length of the device may be varied.
Secured to the ring 14 on the inner side thereof is one end of an elbow construction 30-, The opposite end of this elbow construction 30 opens upwardly as clearly indicated in Fig. 1. Mounted, so as to be slidably received by this upwardly directed end of the elbow construction 30, is the end portion 31 of the mixing chamber 32. The mixing chamber 32 includes an inlet opening 33 of relatively large diameter. The discharge portion 34 of a supply pipe is connected to the supply pipe 36. The supply pipe 36 is adapted to be directed to a suitable gas collector located in the line in the manner set forth in my copending application entitled Gas circulator, filed in the United States Patent Oflice on or about May 6, 1927, and which bears the Serial No. 189,395. As is apparent by referring to Fig. 1, the size of the pipe 34 is relatively small when compared to the size of the opening and it is therefore apparent that the fire door 10 may be moved an appreciable distance before the pipe 34 engages one of the walls of the chamber 32. It is also apparent that since the space around the pipe 34 is great, a suitable amount of fresh air will enter the chamber 32 and will be mixed with the gases emitted from the pipe 34 and therefore this fresh air and the gases mixed in the chamber 32 will pass downwardly through the elbow construction 30 to the inlet opening 25.
A portion of the member 17 extends above the fire in the fire box with which the door 10 is associated. It is therefore apparent that this member 17 will become heated and therefore the gases passing through the opening 25, passage 22, passage 23, and passage 24, will be heated before passing through the discharge opening 26 and the discharge spout 29, and therefore the gases passing from the discharge spout 29 so as to be disbursed over the fire in the fire box will be heated to a relatively high temperature and there fore combustion efiiciency will be increased.
It is apparent in the foregoing description. that I have provided a device which may be expeditiously mounted in association with the fire door and it is also apparent that the device will be arranged so as not to interfere with the opening and closing of the fire door. In addition to the foregoing, the device is arranged such that it may be extended into the fire box in varying amounts, in order that the discharge will be at the point best suited for the efficient combustion.
While I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variation and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is In combination with a door of a fire box having an opening therein, a member secured to the inner Wall of said door including an annular flanged portion disposed around said opening, said member including a portion protruding substantially right angularly therefrom, said protruding portion being aligned with the opening in said door and providing a sleeve, a cylindrical member disposed in said sleeve portion and extending through said opening in said door, means for securing said cylindrical member in said sleeve, said cylindrical member having partially closed end portions providing oppositely disposed openings in the ends of said member, said end portions having port-ions integral therewith providing shelves extending inwardly from said end portions and extending longitudinally through said cylindrical. member whereby'a tortuous passage provided through said cylindrical member, a discharge spout arranged over the opening in the rear end portion of said. cylindrical member, a ring secured to the outer face of said fire door, means connected to said ring providing a passage communicating with the tortuous passage in said cylindrical member and communicating with said discharge spout through said tortuous passage, an elbow structure retained by said ring portion, a housing mounted on the upper end of said elbow structure, said housing having anopening provided in one wall. thereof, and a pipe member extended through said last named opening and. projecting upwardly from said housing structure.
