Abstract

470,205. Air supply to furnaces. OHLSSON, O. A. June 9, 1936, No. 16149. Convention date, June 19, 1935. [Class 51 (i)] The whole of the air supply to the combustion chamber of a furnace is supplied in the form of one or more jets of air directed on tc the fuel and the combustion gases are caused to leave in a direction opposite to that of the air supply through an outlet or outlets arranged so that the air is introduced centrally of the outlet or outlets and is completely surrounded by the escaping gases. In one form, Fig. 1, the combustion chamber 1 is closed except for an opening 4. The circumferential part of the opening serves as a gas outlet and the combustion air which is supplied from an opening 3 in a wall 2 passes through the central part of the opening. In modified forms a tube extends from the opening 3 and projects through the central part of the opening 4. The opening and tube may be located beneath a grate. In another form, Fig. 3, the gas escapes through a series of openings 5 formed around the air inlet opening.
