461,759. Refuse-consuming furnaces. INTERNATIONAL COMBUSTION, Ltd., and L'HERMINIER, A. Sept. 11, 1935, No. 25265. [Class 51 (i)] A refuse destructor adapted for use with a steam generator comprises a hopper 1 in which the refuse is heated before passing into the furnace through an opening in the wall 3 controlled by a door 5, the moisture from the fuel being drawn through ports 9 located in an arch 8 arranged adjacent the fuel inlet opening and communicating with an exhaust passage 11 connected with a fan. The arch may be cooled by one or more pipes 12 arranged in the boiler circulation. The fuel is dried by hot air or gases delivered beneath a travelling grate 4 at the base of the hopper. The wall 3 is provided with openings 19 for the passage of noxious gases to the combustion chamber and the side walls of the combustion chamber are provided with cooling tubes.
