Abstract

Crowns and roofs; fuel, heating and drying.- Gases from the rear end of the combustion chamber of a furnace are returned to the front through inclined flues h, i in the arch k. The returning gases serve to heat and dry the fuel in the hopper a and mix with the gases issuing from the smouldering fuel therein. A valve l is arranged at the junction of the flues h, i to regulate the heating and drying of the fuel. The inner wall of the hopper is perforated and provided at the bottom with an adjustable slide e. When fuel of low calorific value is used, the hopper is made longer and the fiues h, i increased in length and height to correspond.
