Air supply, heating and moistening; fire-bars and grates.-Air from a fan a is supplied to the ash-pit through a pipe d built into the wall of the fire-box and through hollow grate-bars j. Water is delivered into the pipe d from a supply pipe p through a siphon pipe q, and is vaporized therein and combined with the air to form a saturated air-blast. The saturated air is delivered to a hollow box h supporting one end of the hollow fire-bars, and passes through them to the ash-pit. A secondary supply of air may be taken from the main c and passed through passages v in the fire-box wall, being delivered through apertures x above the fire.
