Abstract

365,354. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces. STUG KOHLENSTAUBFEUERUNG PATENTVERWERTUNG G E S., Cassel, Germany. Feb. 12, 1931, No. 4342. Convention date, March 10, 1930. [Class 51 (i).] In a pulverized fuel furnace more particularly for locomotives, in which the burners are located in one upstanding wall of the combustion chamber and secondary air is introduced through a plurality of conduits spaced apart along the length of the furnace, one or more secondary air conduits extend through the floor of the combustion chamber parallel or slightly inclined to the flame and a further upwardly inclined air conduit is located in the wall of the combustion chamber opposite the burners. The floor c of the combustion chamber b is formed with secondary air conduits d1, d2, d3 having overhanging ribs gl, g2, g3 to prevent choking by ash formation. In the front wall h opposite the burners a is formed an upwardly inclined conduit d4. The.flame takes the path indicated by the line A, air from the conduit d1 being added at the zone of distillation of the fuel, from the conduits d2, d3 at the zone of first combustion and from the conduit d4 at the zone of main combustion. A further supply of air to the zone of residual combustion with cooling of ash is admitted in known manner through conduits arranged below, within or above the firebridge. In a simplified form secondary air is added at the first two zones from a single conduit in the floor and a conduit in the wall h, the remaining two zones being supplied from the firebridge. Residues collect. ing in an ashpan i can be removed through a flap k.
