Abstract

248,730. International Combustion Engineering Corporation, (Assignees of Caracristi, V. Z.). March 6, 1925, [Convention date]. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces; baffles.- A locomotive fire-box in which pulverized fuel is burnt is provided with upwardly and forwardly inclined water tubes 22, Fig. 1, and upwardly and rearwardly inclined water tubes 21 connected to the water spaces of the boiler and adapted to carry refractory material to form fire arches. As shown in Figs. 1 and 3, the tubes 21 support an arch or baffle B formed of centre T-shape bricks 24 and wing bricks 25. The bricks are kept cool by the water tubes which are preferably provided with fins 23. The tubes 22 support an arch or baffle C, Figs. 1 and 4, formed of centre T-shape bricks 24 maintained in position by spaced rows of bricks 26. Fins 23 are also provided on these tubes. The pulverized fuel is delivered by one or more burners D into a fire-pan A lined with refractory material and provided with an ash receptacle E. Air to support combustion is delivered below the arches from a circumferential duct 32 provided with delivery openings 31.
