Abstract

259,591. Siemens - Schuckertwerke Ges. Oct. 8, 1925, [Convention date]. Steam-generator furnaces; fuel, feeding; grates; regenerators.-A steam-generator furnace comprises a vertical shaft 3, Fig. 1, in which steam-generating tubes (not shown) are arranged and in the lower part of which solid fuel is burnt upon a conical grate 2, the fuel being supplied by a worm 1. The products of combustion escape from the shaft 3 to an annular chamber 4 in which superheaters or preheaters may be arranged, and thence through an annular chamber 5 which may also act as a preheating chamber. Figs. 2 and 3 show a furnace adapted for burning damp lignite. The fuel is fed by gravity from an annular hopper 6 through a number of passages consisting of rectangular shafts 8, tubes 10, or passages formed by dividing the annular space 7 circumferentially by a corrugated partition. The hot combustion products pass downwardly around the fuel conduits and serve to dry the fuel, and thence through an air-heating space 14 divided by a corrugated partition on one side of which passes the combustion products and on the other side the air for combustion. The moisture from the fuel may be carried off through tubes 11. The air passes to the outer space 14 through pipes 16 which lie against the hopper 6 on one side and are in contact on the other side with a shaft 17 for the escape of the gases. The grate 8 is in the form of an inverted truncated cone having at the base a rotating cone 21 provided with an ash-gutter 22. The cone effects the discharge of ash and co-operates with a fixed part 23 to break clinker. In a further modification shown in Fig. 4 a gas generator 18 is arranged at the base of the shaft, air for secondary combustion being supplied through passages 19, 20. Fuel may be fed to the grate by means described in Specification 270,244. Specifications 4271/76, 16873/91, and 14884/95 also are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) refers to openings 13 in the masonry 12, Fig. 3, for carrying off moisture from the fuel. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accapted.
