Abstract
282,720. Carborundum Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Hawke, C. E.). Dec. 27, 1926, [Convention date]. Liquid, gaseous, and pulverulent fuel furnaces. -Heat radiating combustion chambers or flues of refractory material such as silicon carbide for liquid, gaseous or pulverulent fuel are cooled at the bottom by an air duct through which air passes to assist the combustion of the fuel. As shown in Fig. 1. the radiating combustion chamber 4 is arranged below a boiler 2 and above an air duct 8 from which air controlled by a damper 11 is supplied to the burner 10. The gases are deflected into the fire-box by a rear wall 12. In a modification the burner is located outside the furnace and is enclosed by a casing through which air from the flue 8 passes to the burner. Fig. 4 shows a blower 15 for withdrawing the air from the duct 14a and delivering it to the combustion chamber 14. The deflecting tile 18. Fig. 5, at the rear of the combustion chamber 17 may be cooled by air passing through a flue 19 before entering the duct 20. The combustion flue may be inclined downwardly towards the rear or may be provided at the bottom with holes 29 communicating with the air duct 27<a>, as shown in Fig. 7.
