Abstract
234,049. Cannon, H. B. May 14, 1924, [Convention date]. Liquid-fuel furnaces.-A furnace or oven, particularly suitable for porcelain-enamelled ware is heated partly by combustion flues 13 arranged within the heating chamber 6 and spaced from the side walls 8 thereof, and partly by flues beneath the hearth 7. Horizontal and wedgeshaped baffles 18. 34, respectively, are provided in the flues 13, the latter being arranged immediately in front of liquid-fuel burners 21, to which fuel and compressed air are fed through valved pipes 24, 25, and which are disposed within a wind box 23 supplied with secondary air through a valved pipe 26. The hot gases pass round the baffles 18 and escape from the flues 13 into a transverse channel 29 communicating with a baffled flue beneath the hearth 7, the latter flue discharging, at the rear end, into the stack. The hearth 7 and the walls of the flues 13 are formed of silicon carbide while the baffles in the flue below the hearth, are constructed of refractory material having high heat-storing properties. Between the flues 13 and the hearth 7 are arranged perforated screens 27 to prevent direct exposure of the work to the heat radiated from the inner walls of the flues. The side walls 8 of the furnace are inclined, as shown, and the roof 11 arched, in order that the heat radiated from the top and outer walls of the flues 13 may be reflected on to the hearth 7. An observation aperture 22, covered by a mica disc 22<a>, is provided in connection with each of the flues 14b leading from the heating flues 13 to the channel 29. Specification 186,639 is referred to.
