Abstract

246,681. Lowndes, E. C. Feb. 19, 1925. Pulverulent-fuel furnaces. - The fuel is introduced into a small firing chamber a functioning as a gas producer wherein it is converted into combustible gases with the separation of ash which is removed through an aperture b, the combustion of the gases being effected as they pass over the bridge d and enter the hearth or working chamber e. The air for the gas-producing operation is introduced with the fuel through a burner c after being preheated in flues or ducts in the walls of the furnace, or this air may be introduced through separate nozzles. Secondary preheated air for combustion of the gases is admitted through apertures f near the bridge d. The waste gases pass to a boiler g and the air may be preheated by a coiled pipe in the boiler flues delivering into ducts in the furnace walls. Specification 136,121 is referred to.
