Abstract

154,866. Smallwood, A. June 24, 1919. Metal-heating &c. furnaces.-In a gas-fired furnace comprising a heating chamber d having air ports v opening into gas uptakes c<1> arranged at intervals along one side, and waste gas outlets x along the other, and in which the air supply is heated in a recuperator beneath the hearth and is supplied to the ports v from a common flue u, the gas supply is delivered to the ports c<1> from a common longitudinal flue s'. The air for combustion is heated in the flues t of the recuperator, and passes through the flues i<1>, j<1> to the common flue u. The waste gases descend through the outlets x to the flue 7 and pass thence to the recuperator flues 9. The fuel gas is supplied to the flue s<1> by a producer at one end of the furnace. According to the Provisional Specification the furnace is suitable for the heating of malleable castings. Specification 125,224 is referred to.
