6263. Hollis, A. March 13. Metal-heating furnaces.-In a gas-fired wireannealing furnace, the heating - gases pass through flues f, i above and below the tubes g in which the wire is heated, and thence to the chimney through flues k, adjacent passages m for the combustion air. The gas is supplied from a distributing-flue b through ports d to a chamber c above the arch of the furnace, to which chamber the air, heated in the passage m, is delivered by way of the side flues n. The products of combustion enter the flue f through ports e in line with the gas ports d, and pass to both ends of the furnace, where they descend to the flues i along which they travel back to the middle. They then descend to the flues k, return to the ends of the furnace, and pass thence to the chimney-flue.
