108,573. Duckham, Sir A. M. Sept. 25, 1916. Muffle furnaces.-Relates to annealing- ovens and the like of the kind in which there are on each side a series of combustion chambers 3 and a waste-gas flue 5, with a number of cross flues 2 traversing the top of the muffle, those which lead from the combustion chambers on one side alternating with those that lead from the combustion chambers on the other. Gas and air are introduced to the combustion chambers through vertical passages such as 10 arranged between the vertical flues 4 which lead from the cross flues to the wastegas flues, and in proximity to the flues leading from the combustion chamber to the cross flues. The air is preheated in a chamber 6 above the muffle. A longitudinal passage 15 connects the middle points of all the cross flues.
