Abstract

Metal-heating furnaces.-A gas-fired regenerative oven or furnace for reheating metals or smelting ores is fitted with burners arranged in a chamber D beneath the working chamber E, through which the waste gases pass to the chimney flues J, the burners comprising air-supply branches h<2>, h<3> traversing the chamber D and conveying air from the inlet h<1> to a point near the head of the burner and to the base of the burner to mix with the gas issuing from the nipple f<2>, the mixture being further heated as it passes up the burner tube. There may be a separate air-inlet for each branch. A pilot gas jet j<2> is fitted at the base of each chimney flue J to induce a now of air through the branch h<2>, and by means of these jets the supply of air may be regulated. The gas-supply pipe A is passed through a heated chamber B at the top of the furnace.
