390,207. Liquid, gaseous, and pulverulent fuel furnaces. BAKER, C. J., P.O. Box 233, Shanghai, China, and SKAREDOFF, N. E., 811, Kitagata-cho, Yokahama, Japan. Oct. 1, 1931, No. 27376. [Class 51 (i).] In an open-hearth furnace fuel and air are admitted to the heating chamber so that the streams of fuel and air intersect at an obtuse angle and the resultant flame is directed along the hearth. As shown in Fig. 1, burners 4, 5 supplying gaseous, liquid or powdered fuel are arranged in the roof of a furnace of the reversible type, the burners 4, 5 being used alternately in conjunction with ports 6, 7 used alternately for air and waste gases. The flame 11 from the burner 4 meets the air stream from the port 6 at an obtuse angle and is directed along the hearth to the outlet port 7. In a modification vertical ports for air and waste gases are arranged at the ends of the hearth.
