Abstract
331,881. Lamberti, A. A., and Hooper, A. E. J. March 11, 1929. Glass furnaces.-Fig. 8 shows a glass furnace heated by two oil burners arranged so that the flames can spread uniformly all over the furnace. The combustion gases are discharged through vertical passages 30 to horizontal flues 22, 31 leading to a vertical flue having its outlet above the heads of the operators. The low pressure air supplied to the burner is heated by passing through pipes 21, 32 arranged in the flues 22, 31. Bv displacing the burners away from the furnace walls additional air may be drawn from the atmosphere. The furnace base is supported on bricks 32<a> so as to leave cavities between the furnace and the flues and mav be arranged to slope towards an opening 33 allowing the escape of glass if a crucible breaks. The crucibles may be of the open type or of the type fed through an opening in the side wall.
