Abstract

331,315. Morton, W. A. May 3, 1929. Liquid and gaseous fuel furnaces; regenerators.-In a recuperator furnace more particularly of the type adapted for glass tanks or the like, the combustion air and gaseous fuel are led to the furnace through passages associated with the waste gas flue leading to the recuperator. The preheated air from a recuperator 2 and the producer gas from the entrance port 13 pass separately up adjacent flues 4 and 7 respectively arranged on each side of the waste gas flue 3 and separated therefrom by thin partition walls 14 to facilitate the transfer of heat. An opening 30 between the gas and air flues allows the gas to mix with the combustion air before entering the furnace. The producer gas passages are provided with burner ports 15 through which oil or gas burners may be projected. A valve consisting of a baffle 18 with an offset passage 19 in the upper portion thereof controls the gas supply through the gas main 13.
