Gaseous-fuel furnaces; regenerators.-In oven furnaces of the type in which the waste gas outlets are situated in the floor of the heating-chamber and near to the door, and communicate with horizontal conduits which serve to heat air for combustion, the down flue 12 from the outlets communicates with a plurality of tubes 13 leading to the uptake 14 and spaced from one another to allow secondary air to pass round them. The secondary air enters by inlets 19 and passes to the chamber by passages 22 into which the burners 21 project. The flue 12 is extended downwardly as a chute 17, the lower end of which is sealed by the liquid in a quenching-tank 18. A sliding door 23 prevents articles falling down the chute during charging and also acts as a damper. An additional flue 15 may be provided at the rear of the furnace. The waste gases in passing out through the outlets in the floor of the chamber form a barrier preventing the admission of air to the heating chamber.
