Abstract
1358940 Coke ovens HEINRICH KOPPERS GmbH 26 Oct 1972 [4 Nov 1971] 49497/72 Heading F4B In a horizontal coke oven battery of the kind having horizontally tapered oven chambers separated by heating walls with vertical flues for combustion of fuel gas and air, the region of a heating wall near the pusher machine has larger flues fitted with parallel flow burners, Fig. 1, and the region of the wall nearer to the discharge side has smaller flues fitted with mixed jet burners Fig. 2. The oven chambers are tapered to facilitate discharge of the coke, the heat required being greater where the oven chamber is wider i.e. at the discharge side. In the burner of Fig. 2 the air and gas passing along ducts 2 and 3 mix at 6 and short, hot flames are produced. At the pusher side the burners are designed to keep the air and gas separate until they have entered the flue by extending the dividing wall 4 between ducts 2 and 3. The long flame given by this burner produces less heat than the burner of Fig. 2. The height of the dividing wall 4 may be reduced gradually, flue by flue from the pusher to the discharge side.
