Abstract
911,688. Coke ovens. SIMON-CARVES Ltd. Jan. 25, 1961, No. 2869/61. Classes 51 (1) and 51 (2). In a CoppÚe-type coke oven, rich gas is delivered at the bottom of each heating flue in a vertical stream and air is delivered at the bottom of each flue in a vertical stream horizontally spaced from the gas stream, and a second vertical air stream horizontally spaced from the gas stream is delivered into the flue at a position above the bottom of the gas flue. In a regenerative, hairpin flued coke oven rich gas nozzles 56, 60 and the openings of the air supply passages 34, 36 are placed side-by-side in the heating flues 20, 22. The upper ends of the passages 34, 36 are forked, Fig. 3, to provide passages 64, 62 at either side of a conduit 66 partly overlapping the upper end of the air passage 34. Part of the air supply is delivered at the top of the conduit 66, and sliding bricks 74, 76 and 82 are arranged to control the passages 62, 64 and the conduit 66 respectively so that insufficient air for complete combustion is introduced at the bottom of the flue and the rich gas burns with a long flame to give an even temperature through the height of the flue and avoid the necessity for stepped oven liner walls.
