Abstract

595,380. Continuous muffle furnaces. STEVENS, A. H. (Ferro Enamel Corporation). May 17, 1945, No. 12443. [Class 51 (ii)] A fuel fired continuous muffle furnace has transverse combustion tunnels communicating with side muffles, and a central muffle spaced above said combustion tunnels, and means for controlling the flow through said muffles. Beneath the floor 9 of a U-type tunnel furnace alternate transverse combustion tunnels 11, 12, with burners 8, 10, communicate with side muffles 14, 16 respectively and with a central wall muffle C. The combustion gases flow from left to right, Fig. 1, within the side muffle 16, central muffle C and side muffle 14 downwardly through outlet openings 39, 36, 40 into ducts 41, 37, 42, underthe floor of the preheating and cooling section, and cut through a flue 43. Dampers 45, 44, 46 centrol the flow from the flues 41, 37, 42, thus controlling the heat of the muffles 16, C, 14. Vertical pilasters of successively decreasing height are provided in all the muffles.
